Description

Titanium Countersunk Socket Head Cap Screw
Also known as: Titanium Flat Head Socket Cap Screw (FHSHCS), Hex Socket Countersunk Head Screw, Flat Head Allen Screw.

2) Product Overview

Titanium countersunk socket head cap screws are high-performance fasteners featuring a flat, conical (countersunk) head and an internal hexagon drive. They are designed to sit flush with the mating surface when installed into a countersunk hole, offering excellent corrosion resistance, high specific strength (strength-to-weight ratio), and non-magnetic behavior depending on grade. Commonly used in aerospace, marine, chemical processing, medical devices, motorsports, bicycle components, and high-end industrial assemblies.

3) Head Style and Drive

  • Head type: Countersunk / Flat head (conical underside)

  • Included countersink angle:

    • 90° (typical for ISO / DIN countersunk screws)

    • 82° (common in some inch/ASME aerospace & U.S. practice)

  • Drive: Hex socket (Allen)

  • Finish: Typically natural / bright, optional polished, shot-peened, anodized (color-coded), or passivated.

4) Materials and Titanium Grades (as requested)

Grade 1 — Commercially Pure Titanium (CP Ti)

  • Type: Unalloyed titanium, highest purity among common CP grades

  • Key features: Maximum ductility, excellent corrosion resistance, best formability

  • Typical applications: Chemical equipment, marine, heat exchangers, architectural hardware

Grade 2 — Commercially Pure Titanium (CP Ti)

  • Type: Unalloyed titanium (workhorse CP grade)

  • Key features: Excellent corrosion resistance with higher strength than Grade 1

  • Typical applications: General industrial, marine hardware, chemical processing

Grade 5 — Ti-6Al-4V (Alpha-Beta Alloy)

  • Type: Titanium alloy (6% Al, 4% V)

  • Key features: High strength, good fatigue, excellent overall performance

  • Typical applications: Aerospace, motorsports, high-strength structural fastening

Grade 7 — Ti (CP) + Pd (typically Ti-0.2Pd)

  • Type: Corrosion-enhanced titanium (palladium-added)

  • Key features: Outstanding resistance to reducing acids and crevice corrosion

  • Typical applications: Aggressive chemical environments (chlorides, acids), process plants

Grade 9 — Ti-3Al-2.5V

  • Type: Near-alpha titanium alloy

  • Key features: Good strength with improved formability vs Grade 5; good corrosion resistance

  • Typical applications: Tubing systems, lightweight structures, marine and industrial components

Grade 12 — Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni

  • Type: Titanium alloy optimized for corrosion & elevated temperature stability

  • Key features: Excellent corrosion resistance in hot brines, good crevice corrosion resistance

  • Typical applications: Heat exchangers, desalination, chemical process equipment

Grade 23 — Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitial)

  • Type: Grade 5 ELI variant (lower O/N/C content)

  • Key features: Improved fracture toughness and fatigue; widely used for medical implant systems

  • Typical applications: Medical devices, aerospace fatigue-critical, high reliability assemblies

Notes on “Grade 9 / Grade 12” usage: these are less common for screws than Grade 5/23, but are selected when a balance of corrosion, formability, and performance is needed.

5) Applicable Standards (choose per your target market)

Metric (ISO / DIN)

  • ISO 10642 — Hexagon socket countersunk head screws (primary modern metric standard)

  • DIN 7991 — Hexagon socket countersunk head cap screws (legacy but widely referenced)

  • ISO 965-1 / ISO 965-2 — Metric thread tolerances

  • ISO 68-1 — Basic profile for metric screw threads

  • ISO 3506 (reference only) — (mainly stainless; sometimes referenced for mechanical property formatting, but titanium uses its own specs)

Inch / Aerospace (if applicable)

  • ASME B18.3 — Socket cap screws (covers flat head socket screws by series)

  • AS8879 — Aerospace thread (UNJ / UN) (when aerospace thread control is required)

Material / Chemical / Mechanical Specifications (common titanium specs)

  • ASTM B348 — Titanium and titanium alloy bars and billets (raw material for machining)

  • ASTM F136 — Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) for surgical implant applications

  • ASTM F1472 — Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5) for surgical implant applications (when medical-grade required)

  • AMS 4928 / AMS 4930 / AMS 4965 (examples) — Aerospace titanium alloy product specs (used when aerospace compliance required)

If you want the most “professional” listing, you can state:
“Manufactured to ISO 10642 / DIN 7991; material conforms to ASTM B348 (Grade 1/2/5/7/9/12) and ASTM F136 (Grade 23) where applicable.”

6) Product Specification (Dimensions & Geometry)

Thread Types

  • Metric: M2, M2.5, M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M12, M14, M16 (others on request)

  • Inch: #4-40, #6-32, #8-32, #10-24, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-16, etc. (if ASME line offered)

Thread Form / Class

  • Metric: ISO metric (coarse/fine), typical tolerance 6g (external) unless otherwise specified

  • Inch: Unified threads, e.g. 2A / 3A (per requirement)

Length Range

  • Typical: 4 mm to 80 mm for metric, longer lengths available on request

  • Length measured from top of head to end of screw (standard practice for countersunk screws)

Head Geometry (ISO 10642 / DIN 7991 typical)

  • Head angle: 90° (metric standard)

  • Head diameter (dk), head height (k), socket size (s), and minimum socket depth (t): per ISO 10642 tables

  • Point: standard chamfered end; optional dog-point / cone-point if required

Dimensional Tolerances

  • Manufactured to the applicable standard (ISO/DIN/ASME), controlling:

    • major/minor diameter, pitch diameter

    • head diameter and head height

    • countersink angle

    • concentricity and runout

    • socket size across flats and depth

7) Mechanical Properties (how to present professionally)

Mechanical performance depends on grade, heat treatment, and standard. A professional description usually states:

  • Grade 1 / Grade 2 (CP Ti): moderate strength, excellent ductility and corrosion resistance

  • Grade 5 / Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V): high strength, good fatigue performance

  • Grade 7 / Grade 12: corrosion-optimized alloys for harsh chemical conditions

  • Grade 9: medium-high strength with good formability

Important professional note:
Tensile strength / yield strength values should be declared per the chosen governing material specification (e.g., ASTM B348 / ASTM F136 / AMS). If you tell me which standard you want to print on the datasheet (ASTM or AMS), I can generate a version with a “Property Table” formatted exactly like a catalog.

8) Corrosion Resistance & Environmental Performance

  • Excellent resistance in seawater, chloride-containing atmospheres, and many industrial chemicals

  • Grade 7 and Grade 12 are preferred for reducing acids and crevice-corrosion-prone service

  • Titanium forms a stable TiO₂ passive layer, enabling long-term corrosion protection

  • Non-magnetic / low magnetic permeability (generally non-magnetic; may vary slightly by alloy and processing)

9) Surface Condition / Treatments (Optional)

  • Natural / plain (as-machined)

  • Passivated / cleaned (removes contaminants)

  • Anodized (color identification and enhanced surface appearance)

  • Shot peened (fatigue improvement; typically aerospace-controlled)

  • Dry film lubricant / MoS₂ (if galling reduction is required—must be compatible with the environment)

Titanium can gall under high load without lubrication; anti-seize is commonly recommended for assembly where appropriate.

10) Quality, Inspection & Documentation (Professional Options)

  • 100% visual inspection for head and drive integrity

  • Go/No-Go thread gauges per ISO/ASME thread class

  • Material certificates: EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 on request

  • Traceability: heat/lot traceability available

  • Testing: chemical composition, mechanical testing, hardness (when applicable)

  • Compliance: RoHS/REACH declarations available upon request (if required)

11) Typical Applications

Aerospace structures, UAV assemblies, marine hardware, offshore equipment, chemical processing plants, heat exchangers, racing components, premium bicycle components, medical equipment (Grade 23 ELI where required), and corrosion-critical fastening systems.
